For the second half of this summer term, we are following the theme of ‘Exploring, with a splash of water’. Investigating outside, observing different bugs, insects, textures, building dens, measuring and caring for the growth of our herbs and vegetables. A range of sensory water play is set up each day, making potions with herb cuttings from the garden and using available resources to balance guttering and tubes to pour water down. Noticing and naming shapes in the environment, making connections, counting sides and points to help us identify them, then having a go at drawing them, using chalks. Playing a range of games using a dice, encouraging sharing, turn taking, thinking, problem solving and the use of mathematical language. Our role play area is set up as an ice cream cafe, this has been promoting communication, counting and making marks to represent numbers. Small group activities have been based around feelings and emotions, discussing how we express them, teaching techniques to regulate emotions, helping to remain calm and act with kindness. Alongside this we have been incorporating different interests of the children and adapting the continuous provision accordingly to support this.
